It’s not shocking that a franchise that’s been around for as long as Madden NFL is a bit outdated in the present. But there are many other sports games out there that have been around for almost the same amount of time, but don’t receive the same reaction when new versions are released. Fans need something to get excited about and real enhancements can do the trick.
If the Face of the Franchise mode first came out with Madden NFL 20. it was actually a pretty inventive addition. Similar to what is offered by the NBA 2K franchise has offered for a little while it allowed players to “live the day-to-day life” of a promising prospect becoming an NFL star. There was certainly the option to play actual football games or at a minimum, parts of games, but the emphasis was more on the cinematic aspects. In spite of that the sequel to this mode lost quite a part of its charm. The story was less engaging and the excitement wore off quickly.
It’s likely that EA will attempt to tweak the mode, but it’s possible to eliminate it entirely. Even if the mode is improved than the previous version, players will be focusing a lot more on other modes in Madden nfl 23 has to offer. Even if Electronic Arts do bring it back for a third straight season, there needs to be some improvements, specifically on the story. One of the most common complaints about Madden 22, was its story seemed both unrealistic and forced players to root for characters who were kind of an outcast. If EA plans to bring back the mode in the near future, a little more attention should be paid to creating a narrative that’s compelling.
