I was browsing a support site the other day and noticed something I’d never seen before. In the footer, right next to the copyright info, it said “3 users online right now.” It wasn’t a live chat icon or anything, just a simple text counter.
It was such a small thing, but it totally changed the feeling of the site for me. Suddenly, it didn’t feel like I was just staring at a static page, but like I was in a quiet digital room with a few other anonymous people.
Has anyone else come across a site with a live user counter like this? What was your reaction? I’m curious if this is an old feature that’s making a comeback or just a random design choice.
